I spent a week with John Davidson and Baffin Safari on the flow edge north of Pond Inlet the last week of May 2017. Words can’t do the awe inspiring scenery justice and one hasn’t lived until they make the journey to this unbelievable part of the world.
John is a master of logistics and anyone that can get an entire hot air balloon to one of the most remote places on the planet has to be recognized. You will be in great hands from start to finish and John made sure I felt comfortable meeting him up at Pond Inlet from Ottawa.
We were able to do three hot air balloon rides during my stay and being able to go up and see the layout of the flow edge has massive advantages. The balloon was very comfortable (no big jacket needed) and the peacefulness and the views while experiencing the feeling of floating is a once in a lifetime experience. This will be some of the most dramatic and breathtaking scenery you will ever experience.
John runs a very tight ship and is quick to set up camp and also take it down, while remaining environmentally conscience before leaving the campsite. John has tremendous energy and is always up early or up late if you want to explore and get back out on the ice. We once woke up around 5 am and shot out to the ice pre breakfast to have the peace and quiet of the ice and flow edge all to ourselves.
John has endless experience in the region and John made sure we stayed and felt safe the entire trip. We even had one day with the polar bears from 9 am to 3 pm with some of the bears coming as close at 50 meters before turning and minding their own business. John made sure I felt safe the entire time.
John has an amazing spirit and sense of adventure and will share his wonderful stories from all over the world during the trip.
I loved the small group setting and John’s two to four group trips really allow you to experience the flow edge and balloon rides all to yourself.
